YOU, Inc. is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our team at The Wetzel Center. With a family-centered approach, The Joy and Robert Wetzel Center for Children provides comprehensive, hospital-level psychiatric care for children in a comfortable, out-of-home setting. We created the Center as a hospital diversion program to give children and adolescents a more appropriate setting for their age for psychiatric care than a traditional hospital can provide. The program consists of a latency (child) unit and an adolescent unit, allowing us to support youth ages 6-18 as well as both boys and girls.

Hours for this position are Sunday - Thursday from 7am - 3pm (may be flexible for the right candidate).

Summary:

The ideal candidate for the Registered Nurse position will have the ability to:

  • Demonstrate a clinical knowledge of psychiatric nursing and have an accurate knowledge of psycho-dynamics and therapeutic process.
  • Display an understanding of family dynamics by responding appropriately to family members when needed.
  • Display strong verbal and written communication skills with clients, their families, DCF workers, outpatient healthcare providers, and program staff.
  • Set limits as needed by recognizing potential behavior problems and does so in a caring and consistent manner.
  • Utilize knowledge of growth and development, psychopathology, and psycho-social systems.
  • Demonstrate professional skills and perform the tasks needed to maintain a therapeutic milieu and optimum patient care.
  • Utilize appropriate skills in telephone etiquette when answering the telephone, making sure to record correct messages and pass along to appropriate staff, including patient inquiries.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform nursing services to all individuals including, but not limited to: nursing assessments, vital signs monitoring, following lab protocols, and providing check-ins with youth, as needed.
  • Follow medical protocols and treatment plans.
  • Work closely with prescribers including: assisting with medication prior authorizations, communicating lab results, ordering medication refills, and other tasks to ensure adequate care.
  • Communicate with outside providers to maintain comprehensive care for our clients while at The Wetzel Center and after discharge.
  • Post medication orders and administer medications.
  • Communicate with the pharmacy to ensure medication orders are processed and delivered correctly.
  • Provide first aid to clients and guidance to staff in urgent and emergent situations.
  • Review, maintain, and update client charts and electronic medical records.
  • Ensure infection control and safety standards are upheld.
  • Provide training to clients and staff on topics related to health, nutrition, hygiene, and medication administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • A current, unencumbered nursing license in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Candidate must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Behavioral Health experience preferred but not required.
  • Basic computer skills needed to update electronic records, manage medication orders, send email and receive email, and use electronic time and attendance system.
